The Dwells were born on the fourth of July. Paige Califano and Matthew Bean were enjoying the night on a hot, crowded Boston rooftop, but soon found themselves one floor below with some old notebooks and a guitar. Their voices blended minutes into hours, and as morning glazed the window, they both left hearing music come to life like they had never heard before. As they dove into new ideas, they slowly crafted their sound and what emerged was a neo-Americana folk duet that gave a nod to earlier genre-benders like Gram Parsons and Ryan Adams.

The Dwells are a vocal swirl, drenched in memorable lyrics and infectious songwriting that pull inspiration from drama and expression in all mediums. Califano and Bean both share a passion for visual and performance arts and try to incorporate much of the same kind of experimentation and automatism into their music. Califano has been a lifelong student of the arts and grew up studying dance and music along with still and moving images. Bean earned an artist certification from the City of Boston for his photography and music work, which gave the Dwells access to large loft spaces to conduct various sonic experiments during the recording and production of their debut album. They collaborated with musician and sound designer Max Jeffers to develop a unique listening experience through creative recording techniques and expressive textures. Following the tradition of Carter-Cash, Parsons-Harris, and Welch-Rawlings, the Dwells use the medium of the duo to journey thorough genres and weave a new stitch in the warm world of acoustic music.
